Dear Technician Education Community,
Welcome to Volume 5, Issue 1 of the Journal of Advanced Technological Education (J ATE). This edition of J ATE features many articles themed around artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in technician education. AI has created new research opportunities and has helped prepare academic manuscripts. AI’s increased use also raises important questions about originality, transparency, and accountability of academic research and manuscript construction.
Our journal welcomes responsible innovation while also maintaining scientific rigor. J ATE and our Editorial Board consider the principles listed below regarding the use of AI in the preparation and evaluation of manuscripts submitted to J ATE:
- Authors are ultimately responsible for every aspect of the manuscript they submit. The use of AI tools does not diminish an author’s responsibility for the accuracy of statements, analyses, the originality of ideas, or compliance with ethical and legal standards. Manuscripts must accurately represent the authors’ own scholarly contributions.
- Authors should disclose the use of AI when it has made a meaningful contribution to the preparation of a manuscript. Disclosures of AI use promote transparency and allow editors, reviewers, and readers to understand how AI tools were implemented. Routine spelling and grammar checks generally do not require disclosure.
Our expectations concerning AI use also extend to the peer-review process. J ATE Reviewers and Corresponding Editors must preserve the confidentiality of manuscripts. Any use of AI tools during peer review should maintain confidentiality and should never replace a reviewer’s independent judgment. J ATE Editors remain fully responsible for editorial decisions.
As AI technologies continue to evolve, so too will J ATE policies. Our goal is to encourage the responsible use of AI while preserving the principles of transparency, fairness, reproducibility, and academic integrity that underpin high-quality academic research.
We appreciate the cooperation of J ATE authors, reviewers, and editors in upholding these AI standards. Together, we can ensure that technological innovation strengthens, rather than diminishes, trust in peer-reviewed publications.
