Right next door, so to speak, in the Think Small news section is a photo and profile of our beloved Center Manager, Billie Copley. Please read it and learn how she uses a wide range of skills and ideas to lead MNT-EC. Then share it or hop over to our MNT-EC LinkedIn page to like, comment, or share. (That’s a rather large HINT, huh?)

Normandale CC Vacuum Tech lab

Normandale Community College is receiving supplemental funding for their current NSF-ATE project (DUE #2202166) to support funding instructors who want to register to audit Normandale’s Vacuum Technology classes (this fall semester) to learn more about the curriculum and experience the curriculum delivery. (Email below for more info.)

If you or a faculty peer are interested, please get in touch with Nancy or Tim asap. Of course, if you have a student who is interested, send them over, too (although they won’t qualify for the faculty audit funding).

Fall semester at Normandale begins Monday, August 26th.  We especially are looking for more registrations in the fully online VACT 1010 class “Foundations of Vacuum Science”.  This course can be taken in either an 8-week term or over the full 16-week semester.

If faculty audit Normandale VACT classes, they are under no obligation to complete the coursework nor satisfy the course pre-requisites.

Reach out to Nancy Louwagie or her colleague Tim Lapanne.

As an aside, here are job titles and opportunities that students might apply for after completing Vacuum Technology (VACT) courses/certificates/degrees:

  • (Vacuum) Maintenance Technician
  • Equipment Technician
  • Process Technician
  • Equipment Engineer
  • Process Engineer
  • Sales Associate
  • Applications Associate (Normandale has had a number of employees at companies who work in sales take classes so they become more familiar with the technology and the terminology associated with the technology)
