SUMMARY:National Nanotechnology Day
DESCRIPTION:National Nanotechnology Day is an annual celebration featuring a series of community-led events and activities on or around October 9 to help raise awareness of nanotechnology\, how it is currently used in products that enrich our daily lives\, and the challenges and opportunities it holds for the future. This date\, 10/9\, pays homage to the nanometer scale\, 10–9 meters. \nPlanning for various events and activities is underway at schools\, universities\, and various organizations around the country. Whether at home or outside\, there are so many ways to explore advances in nanotechnology and how it is impacting our everyday lives! \nMNT-EC is supporting National Nanotechnology Day with the flowing activities: \n\nListen to one or more of the MNT-EC Talking Technicians Podcasts (Link to podcast page)\nIn honor of National Nanotechnology Day\, October 9th\, the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) is hosting the Plenty of Beauty at the Bottom image contest. Referencing Richard Feynman’s 1959 lecture\, There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom\, this image contest celebrates the beauty of the micro and nanoscale. Vote for your favorite nano image in the NNCI Image Contest.\n\nYou can also check out other activities or find one to do at home by going to the Nano.gov website at National Nanotechnology Day | National Nanotechnology Initiative

SUMMARY:MNTeSIG LIVE! 2021 Virtual Confernece
DESCRIPTION:The Micro Nano Technology Education Special Interest Group is proud to bring you the MNTeSIG LIVE! 2021 Virtual Confernece \nOUR MISSION: Foster collaboration between educators at all LEVELS\, INDUSTRY\, and AGENCIES for relentless improvement of the micro and nanotechnology workforce. \nWe are currently taking submissions for papers\, posters\, abstracts\, and presentations!\n\nMicro and Nanotechnology and related topics will be considered as well as strategies on how to best teach these effectively at the undergraduate (2-4yr) level.\nYour MNT students are also encouraged to submit a poster abstract highlighting projects\, and undergraduate research experiences. The target audience for this conference is post-secondary educators and students.\nYou can submit an abstract for a Presentation\, Poster\, and/or Paper for publications in the soon to be released Journal of Micro Nano Technician Education (JMTEd). In other words\, you can do a poster and submit a paper or submit a presentation and a poster\, or all three or just one!\nAll accepted submissions will require a 2-5min Lightening Round style video giving the highlights of your talk/paper/poster due one month prior to the conference. These will be shown during the lightening round sessions at the conference.\nPapers will be posted on the MNTeSIG Website and reviewed/considered for publication in JMTEd. Papers are due at least two weeks before the conference. Journal review will be done after the conference.\nPosters will be displayed in the virtual poster networking session and posted on the MNTeSIG website. You will be able to interact with conference participants in a virtual space – training will be provided prior to the conference. Student Posters accepted will receive an Oculus II to enhance the virtual experience.\nFeel free to submit multiple abstracts for different topics\, lead author can submit for multiple authors.\nAs lead author\, you will be notified as to whether or not your abstract is accepted and will then be required to submit additional details at that time (co-authors\, short bio and head shot\, etc.)\nLink to submit a 250 word abstract\, with title: MNTeSIG Live! 2021 Abstract\nLong presentations (30-50min) are to be pre-recorded and will be put on the conference YouTube channel.Presentation videos will be due at least two weeks before the conference.\nMNTeSIG team members can assist you in the creation of the presentation video.\n\nFor questions – feel free to contact Matthias Pleil at mpleil@unm.edu \nSubmit Your Abstract Online!

DESCRIPTION:Abe Michelen\, SUNY Polytechnic Institute\, New York \nThe “Raspberry Pi” is a very small computer that was developed to teach people how to program. Not only the Raspberry Pi (RPi) is a great tool for learning programming skills\, but there are also dozens of cross-curricular applications in the areas of science\, technology\, engineering\, arts\, and mathematics (STEAM). \nNote: A Raspberry PI board and a set of components will be distributed to the participants to be used in classes for hands-on activities. Please email Billie Copley – billie@micronanoeducation.org with your mailing address\, US residents only. There will be a max of 15 participants for this session. \nRegister at https://cccconfer.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwtdOyvqz8vHdzQq4gS3lkpaW4buNrV3fo3 \nBasics General content you will learn in this workshop: \n\nHow to install the PI\, and learn about the inner working of the Raspberry Pi system?\nHow to program with Python? The best way to program the RPi is with Python. We will spend some time to introduce the attendees to the basic Python language.\nUse the General Purpose Input-Output pins (GPIO) to interface with other hardware / sensors / electronics devices.\nSome sensors used:\n\nLEDs\nTemperature and humidity sensors.\nLCD displays\n\n\nSome projects:\n\nVNC for the Raspberry PI (remote access)\nRPi Oscilloscope\nKodi on the Raspberry PI (home theater) – if time permits\nMotion Sensor with the PI – if times permits

SUMMARY:Re-taping of Business Indystry Leadership Team (BILT) Session 1
DESCRIPTION:The Business & Industry Leadership Team Model (BILT) is an employer high-engagement model for college programs\, projects\, and grants that originated with the NSF National Convergence Technology Center (DUE 1700530) in the early 2000s. The model is widely used to deepen employer involvement in educational programs producing such benefits as curriculum better-aligned to meet employer needs\, increased support for recruitment of students\, and others. The two webinars on March 16 and 24 together will provide high-level coverage of the many specifics that make the model work. The origins of the BILT will be explained to set context; key details ranging from employer recruitment to using a structured\, repeatable process for the employers to prioritize the Knowledge\, Skills\, and Abilities desired in the “workforce-ready” graduates in the future will be explained; model variants for colleges\, NSF ATE projects\, and NSF ATE Centers will be discussed; resources will be identified; and questions will be answered. \nPresenter: Ann Beheler

SUMMARY:Launching the Journal of Micro Nano Technology Education at MNT-EC
DESCRIPTION:It has long been said that at four-year institutions\, faculty have to publish or perish; at two-year institutions that requirement is not as stringent but could be helpful to faculty progression. The MNT-EC Journal Working Group would like to help faculty at a two-year institution become more familiar on how to do research and write a journal article for publication. As faculty at two-year institutes increase their familiarity in this area\, they can share this experience with their students. The students can gain research and writing skills that can serve them if they choose to transfer to a four-year institution. \nPresenters: \n\nPeter Kazarinoff\, Co-PI of the MNT-EC and faculty at Portland Community College\nNeda Habibi\, Co-PI of MNT-Ec and faculty at Northwest Vista College\n Atilla Cakmak
