SUMMARY:Launching the Journal of Micro Nano Technology Education at MNT-EC
DESCRIPTION:It has long been said that at four-year institutions\, faculty have to publish or perish; at two-year institutions that requirement is not as stringent but could be helpful to faculty progression. The MNT-EC Journal Working Group would like to help faculty at a two-year institution become more familiar on how to do research and write a journal article for publication. As faculty at two-year institutes increase their familiarity in this area\, they can share this experience with their students. The students can gain research and writing skills that can serve them if they choose to transfer to a four-year institution. \nPresenters: \n\nPeter Kazarinoff\, Co-PI of the MNT-EC and faculty at Portland Community College\nNeda Habibi\, Co-PI of MNT-Ec and faculty at Northwest Vista College\n Atilla Cakmak

SUMMARY:VR Simulations for Teaching Nanotechnology Instrumentation
DESCRIPTION:Virtual reality is an attractive method of teaching to younger students interested in technical education\, and it is very effective for exposing students to new instruments and processes in a safe\, low-cost and low-risk environment. This 4-hour workshop will bring together some of the experts working in this field who have designed\, built\, and used these modules for teaching students how to use instruments of nanotechnology. Design considerations and strategies will be discussed. Results of using VR simulations as laboratory aids will be presented\, as well as experiences with industry outreach. There will also be presentations of recent research\,  technology\, and outreach work from industry and academia. \nRegister at: https://uvu.edu/physics/nanotech/workshop/ \nZoom links for this virtual workshop will be sent via email to registered participants on the evening of 13 May.

SUMMARY:SEMI Certification Model - MNT-EC partners
DESCRIPTION:This one-day workshop will introduce the specific Certification Model developed by SEMI-Cert and NEATEC for technician education programs (A.A.S\, A.O.S.\, BS) – Intended for Community College or four-year colleges with technical programs that are willing to determine if SEMI Certification is appropriate to their programs. \nInstructor: Abe Michelen \nPurpose: Expand the reach and impact of the SEMI-Cert Center to regions in the U.S outside New York State in support of proposed MNT-EC Center. \nThis one-day workshop will introduce the specific Certification Model developed by SEMI-Cert and NEATEC for technician education programs (A.A.S\, A.O.S.\, BS) \n\nGeneral Intro and Overview: 9:00am-10:30 PST\nInvite Hands-on Session: 12:00pm-1:30pm PST\n\nSEMI / NEATEC Process\nThe SEMI / NEATEC Certification Process profiles courses and programs to determine alignment with industry requirements. These educational competencies are compared to the SEMI/NEATEC Unified Competency Model (UCM)\, which is maintained by industry through a SEMI facilitated process. Once a course or a program is profiled\, the course and/or program data are added to the SEMI Works™Portal. The SEMI Works™ Portal uses the data to match those seeking training to providers. \nActivities\n\nReview partner technician education programs to check if these programs align with the Proficiency-driven Academic Alignment Program (AAP) developed by SEMI-Cert. \n\nBenefits\n\nGreater alignment between courses and industry requirements.\nThe ability to match courses to those seeking training.\nImproved marketing and increased awareness of aligned courses by individuals and employers.\n\n
